Didn’t see this coming…

By Mike Michalak May 14, 2021 | 6:50 AM

There’s been a lot of weird stuff going on lately and this one ranks right up there.  Target has temporarily stopped selling Pokemon and sports trading cards in its stores for the safety of its customers.  The decision follows a violent incident in a store here in Wisconsin during which one shopper was physically assaulted by four others over sports trading cards.  Oddly enough the victim was packing heat and while no shots were fired he fought off the attackers but did pick up some minor injuries.  The funny part?  These were all grown men.  The cards will be available only online for now.  The value of trading cards has skyrocketed recently, with rare cards going for astronomical prices.   Soaring card prices are driving some would-be collectors to extremes. In recent months, scalpers have targeted Pokemon cards destined for McDonald’s Happy Meals and ravaged cereal boxes on supermarket shelves to extract the special-edition cards within.  In Japan, one man allegedly climbed down a rope to break into a store and carry away $9,000 worth of Pokemon cards.  What next?  Oh, I’ll tell you…now a shortage on rental cars!  They sold off most of their fleets during the pandemic to make money and now as the Memorial Day holiday approaches, you’d better find one now if you need one!
