“Lady A”? Not On My Show

By Mike Michalak Sep 17, 2021 | 7:38 AM

I’ve taken a hard line on this one and it seems I’ve drawn some support.  I’m not a fan at all of all this if you take down a statue or change something’s name it’s going to change our history.  Just ask the family of Aunt Jemima.
At issue here is the fact I still refer to the country music group Lady Antebellum as just that…Lady Antebellum.  Last year they joined the woke movement and changed their name to, “Lady A” because of an obscure time with the Antebellum name back during the Civil War.  Seems simple on the surface until the real Lady A took issue with it.
Anita White is a singer in Seattle that’s been using that name for a long time.  But that wasn’t enough for the legal eagles in the music biz.  No sir.  Things got nasty.  She didn’t agree to give up the name.  Charles Kelley, along with band mates Hillary Scott and Dave Haywood, had an initially pleasant and hopeful conversation with her, before things quickly went awry.  And the entire affair is still unsettled.
“I think there were some lawyers that probably knocked on her door and said, ‘There might be some money to be made here,'” Charles tells AZ Central. “And that’s when it kind of turned into something a little bit nastier.”
A bold supposition there, Charles.  Maybe she’s proud of the name she built, along with the production company of the same name and wants to keep it instead of handing it off to some politically correct music group.
So, like good Americans, Lady Antebellum filed a lawsuit to be able to continue to go by that name, but Charles is still holding out hope for a resolution.  “Our intentions are true with this, and I think her intentions are true with this.  We just need to get on the same page of how to move forward.”
In their eyes that same page says give up the name.  So, until it’s resolved they’ll be Lady Antebellum on the The Morning Hodag.
