What Better Way to Say, “I Love You”…or not…

By Mike Michalak Jan 27, 2022 | 8:21 AM

Zoos across the US are continuing the Valentine’s Day tradition of naming animals and critters after exes—some of which will be eaten by other animals.  The Bronx Zoo in New York is bringing back its Name a Roach campaign, which allows zoo guests to name a Madagascar hissing cockroach for $15 and encourages people to name the roaches after exes, friends, or loved ones.  The $15 will get you a digital certificate, but they’re also offering Name a Roach gift bundles that include virtual encounters with the roaches or roach-themed commemorative merchandise.  Meanwhile, the Brookfield Zoo in Chicago is bringing back its annual Name a Cockroach After Your Ex campaign and customers can pay $15 to name a Madagascar hissing cockroach after whoever they choose.  Customers will receive a Certificate of Naming in their donation receipt to display at home.  The Lehigh Valley Zoo in Pennsylvania and the San Antonio Zoo in Texas are also offering to name creepy crawlies after someone you love, or dislike.
