97.3 Hodag Country

Okay, to be fair I jumped onto YouTube and checked out the music of Bad Bunny.  Wasn’t impressed.  I don’t know what the NFL has been thinking lately with their Super Bowl halftime entertainment picks but this one doesn’t work.
I’ve been in the music business most of my life, played in bands and have a deep appreciation for it.  But like most popular music today, it all sounds the same, even some of the country!  Mr. Bunny is no different.
Now, you’ve got Bruno Mars and others applauding the move.  In reading a bunch of the dissenting opinions, they’re almost immediately branded racists.  Danica Patrick is a prime example, getting pounced on quite heavily for saying…”Oh fun, no songs in English…”.  Granted, that can be taken a couple ways but it’s been echoed throughout the land.  What kind of statement is the NFL trying to make?
This is supposed to be entertainment, not celebrating a culture to one of the biggest audiences on the planet.
Do I care the guy has the most Spotify streams the last couple years?  No.  I didn’t know who the heck he was until he said last week he wasn’t coming to America for fear of being deported.  Or was that just a clever PR trick leading to the announcement?
In any event, Bad Bunny wouldn’t have been my first choice.  In fact, he wouldn’t even have been on the list.  Our office manager is a fan of his.  I guess if you enjoy the same beat with different words, that’s fine.  But it’s not my cup of tea and the more I read, the more people I find agree.
