My wife has a habit of leaving the TV on for “sound” at night. Lately, all that sound has been the Christmas music courtesy of the Hallmark Channel. It’s their “Countdown To Christmas” that’s already been going on since July or something and for me, I’m already Christmas’d out!
The “Finding Mr. Christmas” is sort of ridiculous with its reality show feel and the TV movies all follow that famous Hallmark cookie cutter plotline. Now, having said all that, there are some I do enjoy. “The Christmas Card” is one of them, if not my favorite. It has the typical happy ending they all have but it features actors you don’t see on every other movie. And Ed Asner’s in it.
“A Veteran’s Christmas” is another favorite. It’s a feel good movie with a bunch of sad stuff in the middle but it stands apart from the rest, if for no other reason there’s a dog in it. There is a third that’s pretty well done and stars a country singer that could use some more exposure and that’s JT Hodges. “Finding Christmas” was his acting debut. He’s recorded some stuff professionally that did hit the charts but really got no widespread radio release and I like his talent. His version of, Joy To The World is pretty good and is featured in the movie.
But the reason for this writing is the music! I’ve already heard all 357 ways to sing Jingle Bells or Oh, Christmas Tree! I’m done. When the bride finally falls asleep the remote goes into action. The whole thing kinda puts a damper on the holiday when I can’t enjoy the music. That’s why I’m glad some of the country artists today are coming up with new stuff. If you’ve never heard “Glow” by Brett Eldredge you’re missing out! Great stuff! He’s got the perfect voice for that style.
Anyway, enough for now. Suffice it to say I’m stuck with this for a couple more months and if you see me walking by whistling a holiday tune, just smack me! 🙂
