97.3 Hodag Country

Did you watch the Grammy’s?  Yeah, me neither.  This organization has again proven all their musical taste is in their mouth!  NOT ONE country act was nominated in the four major categories!

A lot of newbies got the nod Sunday night (2/1) and that was nice to see but behind that stands a precedent of ignorance for the genre.

Get this…there are more than 20 country acts that have been ignored for that little statue.  Some of them nominated over a DOZEN times!  And these are not small talents, folks!

Luke Bryan
Florida-Georgia Line
Morgan Wallen
Keith Whitley
Rascal Flatts
Bill Anderson
Jason Aldean
Kelsea Ballerini
Thomas Rhett
Kenny Chesney
Toby Keith
Blake Shelton
Luke Combs
Eric Church
Jamey Johnson
Martina McBride
Dierks Bentley

And get this, that’s a combined record of 0-136!!!

Why is country seemingly ignored?  If you dig deeper, artists need to cross over in a “more popular” genre.  What a load of crap!

Upon investigation, due to a combination of low voter representation within the genre, a disconnect between commercial popularity and critical recognition and a tendency for Grammy voters to favor those pop-crossover acts over traditional country artists.

Bad Bunny for Album of the Year?  Gimme a friggin’ break!  I’d rather watch the toilet flush than catch his Super Bowl halftime show.

What’s equally sad are the country award shows as well.  The snubs, out of the blue nominations…it’s all a big club and we listeners aren’t invited in.

Take Laney Wilson as a prime example.  She’s garnered MASSIVE streaming numbers with her catalog boasting over TWO BILLION total streams.  Sales are off the chart.  Her album Whirlwind had more than 1.16-million streams in its first 24 hours!!  That’s not popular?  Not Grammy worthy?

I have more faith in today’s groundhog prediction.
