This past weekend, I had the opportunity to attend my 45th class reunion in my hometown of Wisconsin Rapids. Walking into the room, I felt as though time had somehow folded in on itself. Faces were a little older, hair a little grayer, and conversations a little wiser, but the laughter was instantly familiar. Within minutes, we were sharing stories as if only a few months had passed.
One of the greatest joys of that night was reminiscing about the old days. Stories that had become legendary over the years resurfaced, often with new details. Memories of sporting events, school dances, favorite teachers, and adventures of our younger days reminded us of a simpler time when the future seemed endless.
As conversations continued, one theme became clear: while much has changed since graduation, the bonds formed during those formative years remain surprisingly strong. There is something special about reconnecting with people who knew you before careers, mortgages, titles, and responsibilities entered the picture. They remember who you were, and in many ways, they help remind you of who you still are.
When it was time to leave, I felt grateful. Grateful for the friendships rekindled, the stories shared, and the opportunity to celebrate 45 years of life’s adventures together. We came together as classmates, but we left as something more: lifelong friends connected by a shared history that continues to shape us.
