I absolutely love the whims of the internet. In the last week it’s been non-stop with the engagement of Taylor and Travis. Suddenly, the Dallas Cowboys make a blockbuster trade to the Green Bay Packers and the the NFL world takes over with all eyes on Micah Parsons as he dons the Green and Gold and the talk of Super Bowl status, built on defense, covers the web. To be honest, I prefer the latter.
Now, like many if not most of you I follow the Pack religiously but one person does not a championship team make. Having said that, FOX sports puts the trade at #4 among the top trades in the league behind Dallas trading Hershel Walker to the Vikings, the Colts dealing Marshall Faulk to the Rams then the Rams dumping Eric Dickerson back to the Colts. To put things in perspective, the 1992 trade of Brett Favre from Atlanta to Green Bay came in at number six.
What’s interesting is the 27 year old connection with championships and young QB’s. Reggie White came in with Brett at the helm and they won it all. Same age and Charles Woodson came on board for Aaron Rodgers and the Lombardi Trophy came home again. Here we are in 2025, Jordan Love is 27 and we grab Parsons. Are you superstitious?
On an entirely different note, this Labor Day weekend I did something for myself and took the boat out for a leisurely cruise. I casted a few times but most of all just captured the beautiful weather and took my time on the water. Dozens of pontoon boats were out for summer’s last hoorah and now I’m looking forward to late season walleye and those muskies I know that are waiting for me.
