I interviewed John Michael Montgomery at both his appearances here at the Hodag Country Festival. That was 1997 and 2000 at the height of his career. Today (Friday) marks a milestone in his successful career. His last show, “The Road Home” farewell concert, is scheduled for tonight, at Rupp Arena in Lexington, Kentucky, marking the end of his touring career. This performance is billed as the end of his touring career, which has spanned over 30 years. He has noted that while he is stepping away from the demands of the road, he is not necessarily done with all performing, just the continuous touring. This concert is set to be a family affair too, with special guests including his brother Eddie Montgomery (of Montgomery Gentry), his son Walker Montgomery, and his son-in-law Travis Denning.
